![]() ![]() You have reached level 20? Ok you can now either continue with the main story line, or you can embark on a though side quest line that takes a couple hours to unlock some awesome Class Perk for your character. I would design further systems that give further depth to Character Development, Character Progression and Itemization, so there is always something to do to improve on your character as you reach thresholds like Character level 10, 20, 30, 40 etc. I would determine the maximum Character Level and decide how many Skill Points come from Leveling Up, and how many come from Quests. I would conceptualize and design my main classes and a Skill Tree system where players obtain Skill Points as they level up, complete quests, and also find gear that improves the choices made on the Skill Tree. I would literally have mathematicians and Statisticians look at the best games in the industry (such as D2 and POE), in order to find out the ideal formula for item drop rates and power of items and when those should start dropping during the journey, and how they should be designed in terms of power in relation to the Power coming from Skill Trees. Easy to learn and understand in the first 15-30 character levels and the “First Act” so to speak, yet offer deep mechanics that require some deeper knowledge of the game to really min-max a character in terms of Gearing in the mid to late game. Needs to be deep, engaging and interesting. If I would be in charge of making my own ARPG, I would start as follows: But the truth is the Beta reveals A LOT about items and character development in D4.Īs mentioned above, I am not a Game Developer, Just a huge Isometric ARPG Fan. Yes I know only level 25 in the beta, no paragon board etc. ![]() I played both Betas and it was fun, but the most important aspects of D4 (for me) appear to be really poorly designed (Itemization, Skill Trees, Character Development). I am a bit confused after the D4 Early Access Open Beta and the Open Beta the week after. I love D2, D2R and of course POE (The Spiritual Successor to D2). I am not a Game Developer, just a huge ARPG Fan. ![]() Whats the point being on a Forum if you don’t want to read or write something? Maybe better to go and watch TV? ![]()
